Site redesign in progress

Important!

Update:  Everything should be working now.  Welcome to the new and improved Winged Turtle Creations site!

So,  I decided not to wait on the site redevelopment.  I switched the site over to a WordPress platform, and am currently reuploading some files.  That’s going to take a while, so most pages and some of the images here may not work for a while.  I am uploading the image folder now, so those should work soon.   My next priority is the CP shop, then the assorted other pages that I haven’t yet recreated here (primarily the art and photography galleries.) I’m planning to reupload most of the shop-related folders and pages, because at the moment I still have links to them elsewhere.

I’m glad I’m making this move.  Although it’s a bit nervewracking to have my site down for now, it’s a step (well, hopefully, it’s all the steps) towards making the site more easily manageable.  I go back to school at the end of this month, and I want to be able to keep the site current.  That’s something I would never be able to do with the old site.  In conclusion…everything will be back in order soon.

Site redesign and shops hub update

A busy day here.  First, I’ve finished putting up all the main shops for the shop hub.  Secondly, I am in the process of redesigning my site to run on WordPress.  I’ve got some of it done and the new framework set up here.  Completely moving the site over will probably have to wait a while, which shouldn’t be a problem as most of the site is working all right and doesn’t require frequent updates–it’s just the shop that needed an upgrade.  I am going to edit the original site so that the shop link goes to the new shop page here.  I also need to update the CafePress shop so that it matches the new design.

New Shop Sites Update

I’ve done a lot of updating of my new shop sites today, thanks to my discovery of the import/export tool in WordPress.  Because of that, I’ve been able to get several more sites up and running:  the Animal Art Shop, Abstract Art Shop, and the Grammar Lady Says Shop. I also moved the sea turtle shop over to its own subdomain and redesigned that shop as the Shop Hub.  The Shop Hub integrates all different design themes and is a shop-by-product site.  I may add theme pages later, but the idea is to go to one of the themed shops to find a particular style of design.  The shop does have a search, so if someone wants to find, say, a bee iPhone case, they can search.

So overall the shop sites — or as I will call it now, shop hub — project is moving along very nicely.  I am ahead of where I expected to be in terms of getting shops up and running.  I’m going to try to get the next two shops — nature art and photography–up tonight.  The most lengthy process right now is designing the headers, because Photoshop suddenly………decided…….to………work………very…………………..slowly.  Having those two shop sites up will make shops for the majority of my main categories.  I have a couple of categories that I’ve only put subsections up, and a couple of other categories that I’m still deciding if I want to put up, or just leave as search-accessible through the hub shop.

New Shop Sites

There’s been some major redesigning and restructuring at the Winged Turtle shop in the last couple of weeks.  I’ve reorganized the design category pages so products are more visible — you now scroll through the images at the top of the page.  I also added a more visible menu to shop by product, with Zazzle and Cafepress integration.  All in all, I’m satisfied with the improvements.  However, the main store is getting quite unwieldy.  There’s just a lot of stuff on it.

Therefore, while the Winged Turtle Shop will continue to be the central shop site, I am developing a series of “Winged Turtle Shop Sites”.  These are individual Winged Turtle shops on the wingedturtle.com domain, powered by WordPress, each focusing on a particular design theme.  I’m excited about this project, as the sites look neat and clean, not cluttered.  I will be getting most design themes up and running as shop sites in the next week.  (I may not make shops for all categories.  I am planning to keep the themes very tight; for example I may make a peace shop, not just a politics shop.)

So far I have two shop sites up and running:

Sea Turtle Shop — I still have some designs to add, but the shop by product is fully functional.

Obama 2012 Shop – Completely finished, featuring all my Obama 2012 designs and products.

New Yoga Mats

New yoga mats are now available at wingedturtle, through Cafe Press.  So far, I’ve added about 12, in a variety of categories.  There are several sea turtle and abstract art designs — including some new abstract designs–and a few floral and animal art designs.  I will most likely be adding a few more in the next couple of weeks.

The mats measure 24″ by 72″.  All yoga mats are available here.

T-Shirts Now Available at RedBubble

“Turtle Within Turtle” t-shirt by Winged Turtle, available now at RedBubble

I’ve started putting a few of my designs onto T-shirts at RedBubble. I have previously had some of my art and photography on there as prints and cards, so this is the first time I’ve done shirt designs. I bought a shirt there recently, and was pleased with the shirt and the print, so I decided to start putting a few of mine up. Their shirts are American Apparel, and available in more colors than most of the other shops (except possibly Spreadshirt.)

So far, I only have sea turtle designs up, and only nine of those. They are all available here: Winged Turtle on RedBubble.

New Sea Turtle Design: Eye Turtles

Four sea turtles with vivid blue eyes in their backs.

Eye Turtles design set: four sea turtles with eyes in their backs. This is a set of different colored turtles from my new design, “Eye Turtles”. The same design is in four different colors: a purple sea turtle, “Purple Eye Turtle“; a green sea turtle, “Green Eye Turtle”; a blue sea turtle, “Blue Eye Turtle“, and an orange sea turtle, “Orange Eye Turtle“.  Each sea turtle has a body and shell of the indicated color with its head, legs, and tail slightly separated from the body.  Their backs have a series of concentric circles with a vivid blue eye at the center.  Each turtle is bright and colorful.

This is my first set of major new turtle designs, and my second design of sea turtles with eyes in their backs.  The sea turtle’s back is, of course, an obvious place to set a design, whether it is a colorful abstract pattern, or a symbol, or something simple and unexpected.  I enjoy the eyes a great deal, and I like these eyes more than the previous design.  Eyes may now be my favorite design to put on one of my turtles’ backs.

New Winged Turtle advertising slideshow

New Winged Turtle slideshow/ commercial showcasing some of the new products and sea turtle designs. Not too happy with the way it turned out so I might go back and redo it with another program — the one I was using kept randomly crashing. (Add text? Crash. Change font? Crash. Select text? Crash. And so on.) In the future I think I might try a different format.

New Clocks at Winged Turtle

There are new clocks now available at Winged Turtle, through Zazzle. Unlike the other clocks available through Cafepress, they do not have a glass or plastic face covering and instead are acrylic with open hands. They are available round in two sizes ( 8″ or 10.75″ diameter) or square in one size (10.75″.)

New clocks at Winged Turtle: round and square clocks

The square clocks I’ve made so far all have Roman numerals (just 12, 3, 6, and 9) and the round clocks have numbers 1 through 12. I plan on making more variations on numbering for future clocks.  Right now there are about 90 different clocks available with about 50 different designs (many designs are duplicated on round/ square clocks.)  More clocks to come soon.
